For over ten years, local alumnae from all active sororities on campus have been negotiating with the university to procure some kind of permanent housing for their chapters. The plans call for a new “sorority village” to be created on university property that borders Peach Street and Mt. Pelia Rd.
Each non-residential house will have the same structural layout and exterior, but the interior design will be customized by each sorority. The approximately 4000 sq. ft. house will have a large chapter meeting room, living room, and full kitchen with expansion space upstairs for an office and guest bedroom along with attic storage.
The estimated cost of the project is $500,000 for the house with a $5,000/yr contribution to a reserve fund for major repairs and upkeep, plus approximately $5,000/yr for utilities and minor maintenance.
The "tentative" timeline for construction is:
This summer, Delta Upsilon received the final approval from our Grand Council to participate in the housing project and begin to solicit donations from our alumnae, parents and friends so that we can start construction.
